My Horrible Experience With Nigerian Police

Earlier today, I was parked at a blackzone at around 11:43 pm. My only grievance was missing a single vehicle paper and they also accused me of lewd public conduct with the lady in the passenger seat.

Earlier today, I was parked at a blackzone at around 11:43 pm. My only grievance was missing a single vehicle paper and they also accused me of lewd public conduct with the lady in the passenger seat. 

As a result of this, I took my papers to confirm at the police station. Whilst there, I overheard a conversation amongst 6 detained teenage prostitutes; some of them already mothers to babies and toddlers. The conversation took an interesting turn which piqued my curiosity so I decided to record it, not entirely certain of the decision I made but unable to help myself from procuring this information.

While I was rectifying the old black spot issue, another police officer noticed me recording something with my phone. He immediately accused me and once the word spread around the station, there was tremendous uproar and rumblings amongst officers. They took me into a dingy room and began to interrogate me thoroughly, believing I was a spy.

To my horror, some officers suggested death should be my fate. Others suggested I be detained. They used all available means and forms of technology to ensure I hadn't sent the incriminating recordings (On a side note, Abuja offices and stations are standard, well equipped with air conditioners, computers, cameras and other gadgets).

I was kept there for another hour until the actual officer that brought me in was called forward and even accused of set up! They claimed he kept me here to expose them.

One of them was quite ruthless and impatient. In his aggression, he wanted to immediately torture me.

They had to escort him out of the room for peace to reign albeit temporarily. Finally, they agreed to lock me up in jail and set me up on a charge of arm possession and some other illicit constructions.

At this point one of the smarter police officers came in, and I asked quietly for the first time what my charges were. Actually, I had spent the first few minutes when I initially stepped into the police station reading all the processes for detention, interrogation and the like. I stated it to them and sat back, observing them quietly.

A sense of realization seemed to dawn upon them as the police officer gently asked, "But who sent you and why?" In a sudden turn of events, they resorted to begging me to delete it permanently. Why? When they listened to it, they all heard their voices on record taxing the young prostitutes daily dues. I didn't want to start with giving my reasons for recording, I preferred to start with the fact that I was recording because I overheard the ladies screaming, "Go and arrest the people standing by Lagos street! All those woman with their hijab, you know them!".

I was appalled to see that even the constable that gives moral advice would turn back to say, "Leave that slim one wey get big breast na my girlfriend". Finally I was released after satisfying their conditions and once they believed I did not pose a threat anymore. 

To say that I am disgusted by the Nigerian police force is an understatement as my eyes have been opened to the dirty malpractices of the people we call our law enforcers.
