Man burnt to death as the top political parties clash in Rivers

Reports from Rivers state have it that a gun duel between two rival groups has resulted in the death of a youth in the state. 


According to Daily Post, the gun shots were heard in Buguma, the headquarters of Kalabari kingdom in the state on Monday morning and the death of a youth has already been recorded. 

An eyewitness informed that the duel was between rival sponsored groups in the area, adding that a youth popularly known as Kogbomo was shot and burnt to death by some groups. 

“I can confirm to you that people have been shooting since morning. As I am talking to you now, Buguma is still rowdy. Security operatives are trying their best but one boy has been killed already,” the source informed. 

As at the time of filing this report, the state police command had yet to react to the report of the violence confirmed in Buguma.

Vanguard reports also, that the clash is between supporters of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the opposition, the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the town. 

A sourced who spoke with correspondents from hiding confirmed that the place had been deserted as the serious crossfire continued.

While it was reported that so many have been confirmed dead already, several others have been badly injured in the incident. 
Also, a middle aged man was reportedly set ablaze in Bama area of the local government area as everybody tries to take cover. 

Rivers state has been in the eye of the storm in recent weeks as there have been countless reports of violence in the state and the allegations that the governor, Nyesom Wike is sponsoring some of these violent acts.

And recently, thousands of youths from the Rivers south east senatorial district took to the streets of Bori, headquarters of Khana local government area of the state in protest of the recent alleged hate speeches of Governor Wike against their prominent sons and leaders. 

They said that their peaceful walk was in the pursuit of the Ogoni non-violence struggle. The protesters, who came from all the seven local government areas that make up the Rivers South East senatorial district, carried placards with the inscription, “Wike, leave Magnus Abe alone”, 

“Wike, stop bringing guns to Ogoni”, “Concentrate on governance, Wike”, “Wike, go and campaign in Ikwerre, respect Abe and Barry Mpigi”, amongst others.
